Silk, linen, wool: a care guide for the pieces you love

October 24, 2026 · 1 min read · Hatille

The fastest way to make clothes last is to understand the fabric. Natural fibres breathe and age beautifully but need gentle care. Synthetics are tough but can trap heat and odour.

Silk

Hand wash in cool water with a silk-safe detergent, or dry clean. Never wring. Roll in a towel and dry flat away from sunlight.

Linen

Embrace the crease. Wash cold, hang dry and steam lightly. Structured linen blazers should go to the cleaner.

Wool and cashmere

Wash less. Air them out between wears, brush suits, hand wash knits in cool water and always dry flat. Store with cedar to deter moths.
