Your bridal alteration timeline, month by month

The most common bridal mistake is starting alterations too late. Here's the timeline the best seamstresses recommend.

3 months before

Book your seamstress and schedule your first fitting. Bring your exact shoes and undergarments.

6 to 8 weeks before

First fitting: the big changes like the hem, side seams, bust and straps.

3 to 4 weeks before

Second fitting: refinements and the bustle. Bring whoever will bustle you on the day.

1 to 2 weeks before

Final fitting and pressing. Then hang your gown and don't try it on again until the morning.
